He made a few drawings and showed them to his good friend and noted Brazilian guitar manufacturer Giorgio Giannini. Later, when he became a guitarist, he was inspired to design an instrument unlike any other. A designer and painter before he became a musician, Nogueira won the prestigious design award at the "Salao Primavera" in Campinas. It all started with a simple idea from acclaimed guitarist Paulinho Nogueira, who invented the Craviola in 1969. The name was intended to reflect the perception that it sounded something like a cross between a harpsichord (Cravo in Portuguese), and a Brazilian Viola. The Craviola, with its unusual shape and unique sound, has inspired generations of guitarists and music lovers. His ambition to build fine acoustic instruments in Brazil led to a long and successful tradition of guitar making still carried on today. The Giannini guitar workshop was established in Brazil in the year 1900 by the Italian luthier Tranquillo Giannini.
